Abstract

Although the art of challenging for cause is well-developed in the United States, it is not so fully-developed in Canada. In this paper, what Canadian law there is in the area is examined. The purpose is to show the practitioner what pitfalls toavoid and what procedurestofollow. With the increase in the use of jury trials in Alberta, this subject will become more important, not only in the practice of criminal law but, as well, in the civil law field.
