The Justification of Punishment

  • Barry J. Cavanaugh

The author deals extensively, in a philosophical vein, with the justification of punishment and the criminal law. Isthere a right for society to protect itself? The argument herein tends to the apparently paradoxical conclusion that retribution may well be the most humane and most just basis for punishment.
